چکیده

The problem of endogenous viral contamination of simian cell cultures is well-recognized and was the subject of a recent review (7). Only sporadic reports have appeared in the literature on viral contamination of canine kidney cell cultures. Among viruses recovered in kidney cultures derived from apparently normal dogs are canine hepatitis (12) and canine distemper virus (10). Spertzel et al. (13) reported on the recovery and characterization of a canine herpesvirus from primary dog kidney cultures showing a spontane-

Black-Tailed Prairie Dog Colony Dynamics in South Dakota Over a 10-Year Period

Between 1968 and 1978, aerial photography was used to monitor distribution of blacktailed prairie dog (Cynomys ludovicianus) colonies on a 400-square mile area in South Dakota, including parts of Buffalo Gap National Grassland, Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, and Badlands National Monument (now Badlands National Park). Aerial photographs were taken of the study area in 1968 and annually from 197...

Nest Predation on Black-Tailed Prairie Dog Colonies

Nest predation is the principal cause of mortaliv for many grassland birds. Predation rates may be higher on prairie dog colonies because they may have less available nesting cover and may increase predator abundance. We compared 14-day nest predation rates for 1,764 artificial nests on 102 black-tailed prairie dog (Cynovnys ludovicianus) colonies and their paired off-colony sites (similar habi...

Influence of Fire on Black-Tailed Prairie Dog Colony Expansion in Shortgrass Steppe

Factors influencing the distribution and abundance of black-tailed prairie dog (Cynomys ludovicianus) colonies are of interest to rangeland managers because of the significant influence prairie dogs can exert on both livestock and biodiversity. We examined the influence of 4 prescribed burns and one wildfire on the rate and direction of prairie dog colony expansion in shortgrass steppe of south...

Spread of Plague Among Black-Tailed Prairie Dogs is Associated with Colony Spatial Characteristics

Sylvatic plague (Yersinia pestis) is an exotic pathogen that is highly virulent in black-tailed prairie dogs (Cynomys ludovicianus) and causes widespread colony losses and individual mortality rates>95%. We investigated colony spatial characteristics that may influence inter-colony transmission of plague at 3 prairie dog colony complexes in the Great Plains. The 4 spatial characteristics we con...

ACO-Based Neighborhoods for Fixed-charge Capacitated Multi-commodity Network Design Problem

The fixed-charge Capacitated Multi-commodity Network Design (CMND) is a well-known problem of both practical and theoretical significance. Network design models represent a wide variety of planning and operation management issues in transportation telecommunication, logistics, production and distribution. In this paper, Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) based neighborhoods are proposed for CMND pro...
